Welcome to the first edition of our weekly blog, titled, ‘Ferrin’s Fervor’. Indeed, being the founder and President of Ferrin Leadership Development, as I sought appropriate names of this piece, over and above having my companies name, I knew it needed to represent the fire I have in my heart and mind. This led me to ‘Fervor’, with Merriam-Websters defining it as, “intensity of feeling or expression”, along with listing among other synonyms: passion, heat, fire, emotion, warmth and
zeal! I knew I had identified the right word, if there were any, to describe what and how I feel about the importance and impact of ‘leadership’. Now, before I get too far ahead of myself, given this is officially, blog # 1 for this new incarnation of our website, allow me to share our vision and mission, and how we conduct ourselves each and every day.
As I entered my mid to late teens and began to (slightly) mature in my 20’s, it instinctively became obvious to me just how pivotal a role a great leader plays in every facet of life. For myself, I learned it, by first being exposed to it, and, ‘thankfully’, being in tuned to it in such a way, as to and keenly and consistently observe it. Both my parents exhibited leadership to me, albeit it, in very unique and different ways. Who knew that I was in fact introduced to Situational Leadership already at such a young age. Then, by chance, my parents introduced me to various activities, including organized amateur sports, to which I became quickly enamored with. It was here, along with the home environment where, unknown to my young self, a formation was taking place, in which I began to experience and take (mental) note of just how influential certain human beings were to my life.
It was only in retrospect of course, as I consciously looked back, reflected, and identified that when I made important decisions (and even not so important), these
‘people’, who were either my legal guardians (parents) or had authority over me due my freely joining their organizations and/or sporting teams, played a major role, if not the most important role. I later learned, in my adult life, that leadership has an effect, whether one considers it positive, healthy, successful leadership or the opposite. Either way, it is almost always present in the, “why did I make that decision’.
So, how does this all matter to a company that bills itself a place of business, lets say, a ‘boutique’ leadership consulting, training and coaching company? Well, it matters simply because the vision and the mission of Ferrin Leadership Development is smartly, wisely and ethically, to never stop assisting fellow human beings who have been entrusted with the accountability of other people work performance.
I believe I have come to love this industry in large part because it is just so very ‘human’, in all aspects. In fact, often it is this very aspect that many executives wish could be replaced, even if at times, one may agree given where we are as world today. That is for another day.
For now, I not only welcome you to Ferrin Leadership Development, but I encourage you to visit often, see what we are up to, who were are partnering with, and how we may educate, motivate, guide or inspire you and your people leaders. Our motto here is: Ethical, Talented and Humble people promote and drive Positive and Healthy culture, which, almost without exception, delivers consistently high results!
Ferrin Leadership encourages all leaders to regularly check in to stay tuned, learn a new tidbit, recognize opportunities to improve and strengthen, or at times, even renew and rebuild. Our promise is we will always, with fervor, respectfully, smartly and humanly partner with you to achieve lofty goals, and not just a one off, but consistently. My fervor in sports inspired a deep desire to win, but always with grace and grit, passion and skill.
